In Loving Memory of Lorraine MacKenzie

Sorry it’s been a little quiet around here, I was busy getting married!  People’s first reaction to me getting married in frigid February is usually a confused look, but let me tell you it was magical. It was an intimate candlelit ceremony at a cozy little farm surrounded by all of my favorite people!  Also, when you know it’s snowing at home your honeymoon is that much more enjoyable. (follow me on Instagram to see more pictures from our honeymoon in Costa Rica:

I often get inquiries about photographing weddings but they are not my cup of tea. So for anyone looking for a wedding photographer check out mine, Jannelle of Sweet Connolly Photography. She is responsible for the amazing picture above (left) and I promise you will love her!

Unfortunately the week leading up to my wedding was a tough one. My healthy, independent, witty Nana had come down with the flu/pneumonia and it got the best of her. She passed away the day before my wedding.  Ironically part of the reason I chose my wedding date was because it was my Papa’s birthday.  So it did comfort me to know she was in heaven with her soulmate on his birthday watching my wedding from above.  One of my bridesmaid gifts to my girls was mittens knit by my Nana.

If you have been following my Facebook page for a while you have probably seen pictures of my Nana.  She was one of my favorite subjects to photograph.  I remember after I finished my first photography class I begged her to help me practice and be my model.  Knowing it would help me out she agreed. She was a little timid at first, but as we went on I saw how much fun she was having! If I had asked her to climb a tree for a picture she would have done it!  The way I look at it, the elderly have given so much. They are always looking out for their children & grandchildren putting them first.  I think it’s nice to have the spotlight on them for a change. Now that she is gone I am so happy I have these pictures of her – I will treasure them forever.

To honor of my grandmother, Lorraine MacKenzie, I wanted to do something special.  I am asking all of you to nominate an elderly person/couple you would like me to photograph for free*.   I will interview them and make a blog post highlighting this person and showing everyone how special they are.  Comment with someone you would like to nominate. On Sunday, March 1st I will choose one winner at random and post the results on my Stefanie Palmacci Photography Facebook page.

*the session has too be located within 30 miles of Weymouth, MA.  This cannot be traded in for a different type of session and this is strictly for the elderly not an extended family shoot.  You will receive any pictures I edit for download at no cost.

Kerry - I would like to nomiate my grandmother helen – or as almost eveyone knows her “Ma”. she will be 94 years young on March 4. She still tells people she is 80! every year. Ma is a firecracker – in fact i just ordered her a new cell phone yesterday. She bets on football, love to watch the Red Sox and loves to shop. she hits the Irish Social club when she can get someone to drag with her – usually her cousin Vera. On the night she goes dancing to the social – i go over and do her hair up “in case she meets someone”. Ma is one of a kind – that woman doesnt act or look her age. She has many fans and will make you laugh until you cry with her stories! Stef I am so sorry about your grandmother but so happy you have beautiful pictures and memories to hold close to you!ReplyCancel

paula smith - I would like to nominate my mom Hilda Petrowski who will turn 90 on March 1, She lives in Bridgewater in the same house for 60 + years. My dad passed away 20 years ago and my mom has continued to live in the house that she maintains entirely by herself. She loves to garden and summer is a favorite time for her as she finds great pleasure in showing off her new plantings and additions she has made to the yard. Her house is always spotless and she takes great pride knowing that it is the result of all her hard work, Having raised 4 children, she enjoys spending weekends with family when at all possible and enjoys her Saturday night card games with a group of ladies in town. She is still very active, loves to shop, goes out to restaurants and would travel anywhere at the drop of a dime. Although so many of her friends and family members have passed she is always eager to meet new friends in the neighborhood and in church ,she loves sports, and maintains a cheerful and positive demeanor. This snowy winter has been rather difficult for her as she has not been able to jump in her car as she would like to do.. She is truly an inspiration to her family, that keeping busy and working hard, everything in moderation, is the key to a happy and healthy life. I think my Mom still has a lot more to do. .ReplyCancel

    • February 18, 2015 - 9:42 pm - Hilda sounds amazing (i love her name!). I can only hope I am that active and organized in my 90’s. I love how she has stayed positive through all the years. It doesn’t sound like she is slowing down any time soon. Being picked for this would be a great birthday present! Thanks for sharing!ReplyCancel

Madelene Cheney - I would like to nominate my husbands grandparents (Tom & Barbara Cheney). They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Tom, now 91 recently started going blind. He cannot see faces too well anymore. He has a special magnifying machine he can use to still look at photos and read the mail. Having beautiful photos of Tom and his wife would make them so happy and I know it is something they will both cherish. I could picture them looking at them a couple times a day.ReplyCancel

    • February 18, 2015 - 9:43 pm - I am in awe of couples that have been married for 65 years, certainly something to aspire to. I would love to hear their secrets! Thank you so much for nominating Tom & Barbara!ReplyCancel

Erica Pollard - How will you ever choose? Such great nominations! I would like to nominate my nana Bobbi – she is one of the funniest people I know. She has been having a hard time lately. She took a fall in December that landed her in the hospital with a fractured pelvis, and it has taken her a long time to get back home. She doesn’t see very well anymore, and is trying to learn to live with the challenges of Alzheimers, but still fiercely independent. She is still living alone (with some support) with her dog. Thanks for sharing your nana’s story – I think we all have to remember that the time we have with our grandparents and elderly relatives is limited, so we should cherish it! Thanks for the reminder!ReplyCancel

    • February 19, 2015 - 9:47 pm - Thanks for the nomination Erica! I agree I could never choose it would be too hard – I will be pulling a name from a hat. Your Nana sounds like a trooper – I love that she still has a sense of humor!ReplyCancel
